Radar memories.

Radar was certainly not invented near Worth Matravers on the Isle of Purbeck. However, as war broke out, from May 1940 - May 1942, this site a couple of miles from the village became the nerve centre for radar development in the UK. Previously it was on the Suffolk coast but that was far too close for frequent enemy bombing raids.

This memorial was unveiled 25 years ago, specifically in memory of Dr. Bill Penley who was one of the radar team, but also a founding member of the Purbeck Radar Museum Trust.
