Launch of Baiju Cocktail Week 2015 @ Opium Cocktail & Dim Sum Parlour, Chinatown, London
Baiju AKA shaojiu is strong distilled grain spirit that originated in China. Like any spirit, is is easier to drink when mixed into a cocktail, and so Diageo & SeeWoo (who are both involved in its distribution, i think?) - have financed ‘Baiju Cocktail Week’, presumably to help raise the profile for the spirit. The brand that they’re pushing is Shui Jing Fang - which I think is one of the oldest, active distilleries in China, if not the oldest.
Baiju cocktail week happens a week before Chinese new year, and will see a bunch of venues around London taking part (as in, serving their own Baijju cocktails). These include including Bó Drake, Casino at The Empire in Leicester Square, Gong at Shangri-La Hotel, At The Shard, London, Hakkasan, Hutong at The Shard, Opium, Ping Pong Dim Sum, Salvatore's Bar at The Playboy Club London plus Spice Market.
TBH I am not a big fan of the spirit myself but have only tried it a few times. The first time I knocked it back straight I thought my face was gonna come off. But, perhaps it is an acquired taste and I just have to TRY HARDER.
