Flak Tower
This photo shows part of a Flak Tower, or Flaktürme, in German. It's one of three such towers that was built in Berlin. Each had its accompanying smaller command tower nearby. The Flak towers were essentially a 20th century fortress. They contained things like anti-aircraft gun platforms, radar towers, observation posts, hospitals, air raid shelters etc. After the war they became hostels for the homeless.
