Coffin Fittings
As you'd expect from an excavation in a former burial ground, we've found a lot of coffin fittings sitting loose within the soil, mostly in the form of iron coffin nails and this selection of handles. They may not seem too exciting, but fittings like these can be an intriguing window into the social and economic history of the time. Analysis of them could potentially tell us what date the coffin was produced, what style of coffin they were attached to and even where it was produced. Were the fashionable folk of Kidderminster being buried in fancy coffins? Or did they favour plain styles? Where were the coffins produced? Watch this space...!
