Backstory:

Many years ago, during the early ages of the Makuta Wars, there lived a small village of Matoran. In this small village lived a boy, a boy known as Raphael. Raphael was a peaceful child, living life as well as he could. One day, one dreadful day, his village was ransacked by Atukam's forces. The village was slaughtered, it was one of the biggest blood baths ever recorded in Fieldus Magna history. Raphael witnessed it all, every killing blow. Until there was only three being left, Raphael, and his parents. Soon, Atukam arrived in person, and personally slaughtered the parents of Raphael, right in front of his poor, young eyes. Raphael was broken, his mind couldn't take the pain caused that day. Raphael went into great mental distress. He was so distressed, that the Turuga of Saga-Nui sentenced Raphael into isolation. They sent him to the Asylum under the ice continent of Polis-Nui. In his stay, he met an old Ex-Air Toa known as Laelum. Laelum was sentenced on a charge of numerous murders. Laelum was sentenced to execution that very day. At the very sight of his execution, he committed one more act of defiance, he threw a Toa stone that was stashed in his pocket, into the crowd. Who was the one to catch it? Raphael. Raphael then became a Toa, and then soon after escaped when the building around him suddenly collapsed. Raphael made it out, but soon blacked into unconsciousness.

Raphael awoke on the shores of Saga-Nui. He was confronted by the newly formed Toa Fieldus, who were sent to destroy him or take him at all costs. The Toa known as Shadowflame confronted Raphael personally, showing great mercy to the Purple Toa. Shadowflame saw not a monster, not a Psychopath, but a reflection. A reflection of himself. He saw the pain in Raphael's eyes, and Shadowflame knew that Raphael's appearance was more then organic...But more of experimental. Out of great fear, Raphael hit Shadowflame, but soon discovered that his little punch had festered into a wound of ooze, infection, and blisters. Raphael was shocked, and ran away. Raphael was confused on this new power, what was it? What did it mean? How did he gain it? He didn't know.

After running for so long, Raphael was finally cornered by the Toa Fieldus, and was brought into their base of operations in Saga-Nui. Shadowflame hadn't forgotten the power that Raphael seemed to posses, and insisted on something. It wasn't experimentation, Death, or imprisonment. Shadowflame insisted that the Fieldus Team help this poor spark of a being, opposite to the Turgua's command. Raphael hesitantly agreed, because he wanted to be rid of a curse like his. The team eventually found out that Raphael had somehow gained the power of Pestilence, making him the only known Pestilence Toa in Fieldus existence. Shocked, they decided to further create safety for this rare being. After months of isolation with the Toa, hiding from the Turgua.

Raphael had seem to be taking control of his own mentality, after Shadowflame saw this, and the months of training he saw Raphael went through, he decided to let Raphael join the Toa Fieldus, to test his now better mind.

After facing what seemed like a life time of mental instability, Raphael finally was able to control his mentality, and he soon became one of the most rational members of the Toa team. Raphael still faces challenges though, like night terrors, visions, and other behaviors of a mentally disturbed person. Joining the Toa was his safe haven, and he has been grateful since. Raphael had a tough childhood, with his village being brutally obliterated by Atukam's forces, and Atukam himself murdering his very parents. But, Raphael soon discovered another thing. Raphael discovered his true origins. He was actually a Matoran of Gravity! He was surprised, many years of mental instability must have locked away that side of his self. Raphael was confused though, where did his powers of Pestilence come from?

Raphael may not know, but with his friends by his side, he will soon discover what made him into what he thinks of himself as a monster.
