Curly Redwood Lodge

After winding up the Pacific Coast, through numerous state and national parks, we decided to call it a night when we hit Crescent City. Our search for a place to sleep for the night landed us in this unique place, the Curly Redwood Lodge. The motel, an immaculate snapshot from roadside motels past, was built entirely from the wood of a single Curly Redwood tree. From the motel's website:

"The Curly Redwood Lodge is one of northern California’s most unique lodges. It was built from one curly redwood tree that produced 57,000 board feet of lumber. Curly redwood is unique because of the curly grain of the wood, unlike typical straight grained redwood.

We are 5 minutes away from the Redwood National and State Parks; right across the street from our lovely harbor and beaches. After a day of hiking the redwood forests or walking our pristine beaches you can relax at the lodge and watch the beautiful sunsets over the harbor and smell the fresh ocean air. What a storybook ending to a perfect day!"

Matt spent the evening taking the remainder of the photos in this set around our room and the motel.
