GW type - unpolished slab - 10.5 cm x 14 cm x 1 cm thick
The chunk it was cut from (now minus four slabs) weighs about 8 pounds - collected in or near the Doebbler caliche pits, in Live Oak County, Texas, several years ago. (an interpretation of the type is: casts in volcanic ash, made by logs or limbs or roots of trees, having been filled by silica, or quartz of the chalcedony habit, with little or no sign of the wood structure remaining - hence, "George West type petrified wood" To see more of this type of petrified wood, in my collection, go to this page:
