on the second day at the Walker Ranch, one of the collectors dug a nice eight-inch long amethyst geode right out of the road, not too far from where we were all parked that day - our host and the land-owner, Brian, is examining the small end - it broke into two pieces when the guy was extracting it from the basalt/host rock.
