Surfers near Prasonisi cape. There were a lot of them :)
Prasonisi is a cape of the island of Rhodes, at the southern-west part of the island. During summer time, and when water levels are low enough, Prasonisi is a peninsula attached to Rhodes. The southernmost tip of Prasonisi contains the Prasonisi Lighthouse. During the winter time, and when water levels are high enough, Prasonisi becomes an island. Prasonisi is noted to be a good place for windsurfing and kitesurfing due to predictable and reliable winds with certain qualities (not gusty, constant direction and during particular times of the day). From one side of the cape there is the Aegean Sea with good waves and views for advanced surfers. From the other side, there is the Mediterranean Sea with flat water which is better suited for beginners. The area has its high season for tourists in July and August and the flat side of the water becomes very busy. The closest Greek village is Katavia; however, there is a purpose-built settlement on Prasonisi that contains motels, convenience stores, restaurants, and windsurf rentals which are open seasonally.

Prasonisi - półwysep na greckiej wyspie Rodos, usytuowany na południowo-zachodnim krańcu wyspy, okresowo wyspa. Prasonissi oddziela Morze Egejskie od Morza Śródziemnego. Podczas lata, gdy poziom wody jest odpowiednio niski, Prasonisi jest półwyspem, gdy w sezonie zimowym przesmyk zalewany jest przez fale. Na najbardziej na południe wysuniętym krańcu półwyspu znajduje się latarnia morska. Obecnie Prasonisi jest jednym z najbardziej popularnych ośrodków windsurfingowych i kitesurfingowych w całej Europie ze względu na silne wiatry i charakterystyczne położenie, niespotykane w żadnym innym miejscu. Od maja do września z siłą 5-7 stopni w skali Beauforta wieje tu wiatr zwany meltemi. Po stronie Morza Egejskiego (strona nawietrzna), gdzie fale są wysokie (do 2 m), warunki są odpowiednie dla zaawansowanych windsurferów, zaś łagodna tafla po stronie Morza Śródziemnego (strona zawietrzna) stwarza idealne warunki dla początkujących oraz dla tych, którzy pragną rozwijać duże prędkości na desce. Szeroka, piaszczysta plaża jest bardzo popularna wśród kitesurferów. Sezon trwa tu od maja do końca października i w tym czasie działają hotele, tawerny sklepy oraz 3 centra surfingowe (Prasonisi Center), gdzie można wypożyczyć sprzęt, wziąć lekcje z instruktorem.
