Inspired by the NGV
Anai, Year 5, St Leonard's College
During the first semester the art program for Year 5 students at St Leonard’s College concentrated on the ‘Monet’s Garden’ exhibition at the NGV.
As part of the program each student produced a waterlily inspired artwork using a variety of layers and materials including coloured paper, acrylic paint and oil pastels.
This unit of work culminated in two significant events. One was the display of the students’ artworks as a floor installation, mimicking the waterlily gardens at Giverny. Small ceramic Japanese bridges made by the students were arranged across the surface of the works. Miniature painting easels displaying photos of the students, and the students’ favourite quotes by Monet were placed around the perimeter of the installation.
The second event, possibly the highlight of the semester, was students attending the NGV to view the ‘Monet’s Garden’ exhibition and participate in a workshop.
