Abandoned Children's Home/Hospital/Hotel
Thornton Fever Hospital was opened in 1902 as an isolated hospital to treat diseases such as meningitis, diphtheria, scarlet fever, etc. Following the hospital’s closure, the buildings became a hotel; first known as Strathore Lodge Hotel, then Corsbie Hall Hotel. Later it was used as a children’s home, then a care home for the elderly known as Fosterton Firs. It was used by Strathore Plant Hire until 2006. There’s little information on this place, so I’m not certain of any dates.
Given the fact that the buildings have been used for so many different purposes, it was interesting to see that a lot of stuff was still lying around; remnants of both the children’s home and hotel years. The sun was setting during the time I visited, so I had nice lighting to work with.
