NIGHT-TIME SURPRISE
Two class31 locomotives were used by the Derby Research Centre during the late 80's. 97203 (the former 31298) and its replacement, 97204 (the former 31326). The latter was later renumbered back into the 31 series, becoming 31970
I'm not 100% certain but fairly sure this is circa April 1989 97203 had been withdrawn in 1987 so this must be 97204. It still has the markings for the British Rail Research Technical Centre however as can be seen it is working a parcels at Crewe.
So it could be that it has been renumbered already or if not will do shortly.
I saw it again at Gloucester Open Day on 17-9-89 by which time it was numbered 31970 and had lost it's BR Research markings.
