Taking the leap
Children in one of Maputo's poorest neighborhoods play outside a community center. The neighborhood is home for a growing number of children who raise themselves because their parents have died of AIDS. Inside the community center, orphans are learning job skills so that they can support themselves and their siblings. More than a dozen AIDS orphans in the city are participating in a photography project that has them behind the cameras, documenting their lives. Highlights of their work are published daily on the project website, www.thehouseissmall.org.
