Memorial of the Hungarian Jewish Martyrs: my epiphany here: soul-shocking realization of what it must have been like to be a Hungarian Jew in 1944

Some very personal thoughts on this visit ...

in walking the streets adjacent to this synagogue, I came to the soul-shocking realization of what it must have been like to be a Hungarian Jew in 1944, when one's family and friends were rounded up by the Nazis for deportation to the death camps by the Nazis .. I stopped and put my hands on the wall of the Dohany Synagogue and it was only then that I fully understood ...once and for all, what had happened here ... for all the books I have read, even visiting Yad Vashem in Jerusalem, nothing brought me the intense pain inside my soul of this moment ... an epiphany to be sure.
