Then it turned its head and tried the left ear, before sitting up a bit and seemingly trying the more standard 2 ear approach. I have seen lots of snow dives, but don't remember such listening, which looked quite humerous to me, especially this position.
According to my camera's clock, I photographed the bird on the ground for only a bit more than two minutes. It seemed like 5.
