Jim Falck
Jim Falck was an architect and painter who held a passionate belief in the power of art to affirm life. His images are instilled with a deep understanding of the history of painting and demonstrate how deeply motivated he was by Modernist masters like Matisse, Picasso, Cezanne, Clyfford Still, and Richard Diebenkorn. A North Dakota native, he was born to a family that farmed land north of Jamestown and went on to study architecture at NDSU. He worked in a number of prominent architecture design firms in Denver and Boston during the 60s and 70s, and held the position of Chief Landscape Architect for the Metropolitan Park System of Boston until his retirement in 1988.
Afterwards, he embarked on a personal journey as a full-time painter and divided his time between home and abroad, creating work in artist residencies in Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Mexico. These paintings convey a passion for travel and a lust for life. With his death in October 2013, a collection of his personal artwork was donated to NDSU in his memory and an endowment was created in his name. This exhibition is a celebration of the life and work of Jim Falck and his legacy of lifelong commitment to the visual arts.
