Car with grill guard2
Loaded with lift kit, fenders and a grill guard strapped to the roof, ready for a 1600 mile trip.
This is my Mercury Tracer (Identical to Ford Escorts). These are great cars, easy to work on, parts are cheap and plentiful, very dependable and they get great gas mileage. The manuals with a 1.9L engine are what to look for though. The automatics kinda suck and the 1.8L, although more powerful, have interfering heads. This means when you bust a timing belt your engine is likely to tear itself up.
