Harvey & William, Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary

Harvey: Coloured donkey gelding. DOB 2002. Came to Remus in 2004.

William: Grey donkey. DOB 2007. Came to Remus in August 2009

Harvey came to the sanctuary in 2004 from a market following concerns from the public. He had been left tied to rear of a tatty old trailer in blazing sun, without water or shelter. He looked so lost and longingly at anyone that may be able to help him.

Several hours later he appeared in the ring, dragged around by a young schoolgirl who couldn't have despised him more, elbowing him constantly. His turn was over, no one wanted him. He was worth nothing to anyone. He was to return to the travellers who had treated him so badly.

A deal was struck and he came to the sanctuary in 2004. He lived with the horses and did not seem to realise he was a donkey until one day he heard them calling, and from that day all he wanted was to be part of the donkey herd.

William came to Remus Sanctuary along with Coco. They were both standing head down and pitifully thin, tied to a horse box at an unauthorised travellers fair. They had given up on life. Along with a Shetland Pony named Stix they were brought to the sanctuary, and it was a year before they felt well enough and safe enough to play.

They are now in good health and absolutely adore each other, and love their life at the sanctuary with the other donkeys.
