USINS Clara Barton (T-AH-28)
USINS Clara Barton, Compassion Class Hospital Ship

The USINS Clara Barton (T-AH-28), is a Compassion class interstellar hospital ship, the third ship in the class, and the 28th hospital ship built for the US Navy.
She is named for the “Angel of the Battlefield”, Civil War nurse and founder of the American Red Cross, Clara Harlowe Barton.
At 1,106 feet long, and 134 feet wide, the Clara Barton is completely functioning hospital, with facilities including but not limited to;
2000 beds
20 ICU wards
16 operating suites,
4 oxygen-producing plants
4 Reliance Class Rescue Shuttles, two on each side of the ship,
etc.
In addition, the Compassion class all carry a fully staffed and equipped laboratory, where, when the need arises, scientists work around the clock developing cures for all manner of alien viruses.
Powered by a nuclear reactor, and manned by close to 4000 crew, the Clara Barton’s complement includes doctors, nurses, crewmen, engineers, pilots, officers, and 48 US Marines, in charge of defending the rescue shuttles on missions, and the ship itself.
Though almost all human nations recognize that firing on a hospital ship constitutes a war crime, sadly, many alien societies do not, forcing the Clara Barton, and others like her, to carry defensive weapons, in the form of 11 ten-inch laser cannons, mounted around the hull.
Always accompanied by an escort, most commonly in the form of one of the feared Alberta class destroyers, the Clara Barton has carried out missions in all corners of the galaxy, from lending humanitarian aid on Vergas 12 after a devastating mega-tornado hit the planet’s capital city, to caring for injured Loyal Alalin troops during the latter planet’s bloody civil war.
Members of the Clara Barton’s crew have received various medals for heroic actions, the most notable of which was Master Sergeant Alan Weir, who was awarded the Medal of Honor, for his actions in almost single-handedly defending the rescue shuttle Quick Exit (CBRS-3) from over 50 Insurgent Alalins during the war.
The Clara Barton has undergone a minor refit, and continues to serve faithfully to this day.
