Dover DE.Dover AFB Air Mobility Museum.Hangar 1301.good.compressed
The Air Mobility Museum is housed in historic Hangar 1301 - from 1944 to 1946 it housed the secret engineering facility for the 4146th Army AFB Unit which developed the first successful U.S. combat proven air-launched rocket systems.
The rocket, while it did not end World War II, was part of a technological shift in combat that would be felt during the combat actions of the Cold War era.
There's 30+ aircraft including the gigantic C-5A that holds the record for lifting 1,000,000 airborne, C17s, and a VC-9 that was Air Force "Two" to VPs Mondale, Bush, Quayle, Gore and Cheney, and hosted Queen Elizabeth and such on U.S. visits.
The original Dover AFB control tower was moved to the museum when a new control tower built for the AFB, where you can see over much of the Dover AFB, and watch pilots practice their touch and goes on these giant aircraft. We were able to see C17s and another aircraft putting in their time.
