The Smith Family in relation to the LMA’s MAN Up Program played a significant role in initiating the whole program. It was the Smith Family that approached the youth coordinator, Bilal El –Hayak from the LMA and enquired about the local community in Lakemba. It was Bilal that mentioned how there was a lack of father involvement in their kids lives and how majority of these kids were experiencing mental health problems such as Depression. Following, the conversation, it was agreed by both parties that there was a massive gap of father and son interactions, within the community, so they hypothesised a two day father and son conference designed to close the gap between fathers and sons, and educate fathers on how there constant involvement in their children’s lives can prevent the development of disruptive behaviour disorders like depression. They both worked simultaneously with each other and held various meetings at their offices.
