People Draped in Sheets
I just came back from a trip to Washington for our annual convention. The trip had some high points and some unexpected (and unwanted) excitement. On Friday night at 4:18 a.m. we were all awakened by a fire alarm. Everyone evacuated the building as six fire trucks arrived. This was no prank. There was a fire on the 7th floor with billowing black smoke. Fortunately they put it out with no injuries. I was able to get back into my 8th floor room (no elevators!) after a couple of hours. Some people had left in a big hurry and were in their pajamas and bare feet. I think they gave people sheets to try to keep warm during the time we were all outdoors.
