Crab Claws
Actually, this is a succulent plant, but it looks a lot like the cracked crab claws that poisoned my cousin and me on our recent trip to Mexico. I haven't been that sick in a very long time.
I lit these from the side with a small CF studio lamp and put an off camera flash behind which backlit the orange tips.
This is a combination of three photos, each with a different focus point, combined in Photoshop to give greater depth of field than the lens is optically capable of. This technique is also referred to as "focus stacking". A friend lent me a macro slider which allows for much more precise focusing.
More pictures where I used focus stacking can be seen in my Maximum Depth of Field set. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157624044378381/...
Other succulent pictures I've taken are here. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157630243235270/
