Ocotillo Blooms In The Light
I like the vivid red color in this one which is from a trip to the Anaza Borrego Desert back in the spring of 2015. The blossoms of the ocotillo can be beautiful after a good rain. When they go without rain for a long period of time they start dropping leaves and flowers in order to conserve water.
Lighting: I used camera setting that let the sky go fairly dark and then lit the flowers with a Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box hand held at camera right. I used a large silver reflector to try and bounce some light onto the left side of the flowers. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1400 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/
Other pictures that I've taken in various deserts can be seen in my imaginatively titled Desert album. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/albums/72157612841897129
