Bison

The bison herd in Kurozwęki are American Plain bisons. These animals have never been tamed by humans and remain to his day completely wild. They are a distant cousin of the European bison also known as the Wisent, differing from American bison mainly in size and in their horn positioning. The American Plain bison’s mating season is in August/September and the period of gestation is 9 months long. A bison reaches its adult size after 3 years.

Since December 2000, when 20 heifers and 2 bulls were brought from Belgium for breeding and agritourism purposes, the herd has grown to over 80 heads and is constantly growing. Every year in the spring you can see new tiny bison in the meadow behind the Kurozwęki palace.

Everything indicates that the herd has acclimatized to our area without any problems. Since the establishment of the breeding farm, we have managed to have over 60 young and every year we have more. Small, fair-haired buffalo can be seen every year from around May. In total, we already have over 80 individuals.
