The Büyük Kervansaray Otel in Diyarbakır.
In the past the camels slept in the stalls on the ground floor, the owners slept on the first floor in small rooms.
This large Ottoman caravanserai, formerly called Delliler Hani (Caravanserai of the Guides, who showed pilgrims around), built in 1521-27, is now transformed into a hotel.
Originally it had 72 rooms, 17 shops and stabling for over 800 camels and was a stopover on the Silk Road en route to Syria.
The spacious courtyard with its mature trees and colourful flowers offers a wonderful retreat from the city bustle. The rooms are set on the upper floor as they would originally have been for the merchants. Rooms are small but airconditioned and have very good en-suite bathrooms.
In the second courtyard at the back away from the street there is a very fine swimming pool.
