Celebration!
Here's what happened once we realized just how bad the concrete was. We chipped it all up. We bought a "quick level" self leveler and poured it all over the floor. It never leveled itself like it was supposed to, so next step: creative mortaring. Then on top of that goes the moisture barrier backer board, which we taped up after we ate. The tile goes on top of all of this.
