fire island, long island, ny
This is a photo I took from 1000 feet of a breach on Fire Island caused by Hurricane Sandy. The breach has been a good thing for the Great South Bay, clearing it out and making it less polluted. However, it exists as a reminder of the power of the hurricane, the ways in which storms and sea level rise impact the coastline, and the increased frequency of strong storms hitting the northeast US.
