These images come from a lavishly illustrated book published by H. Virtue and Co in 1900 which is a summary of the progress of the Boer War while it was still being fought. I will load up more images as I go as there are so many names and
images that I am sure would be of value to those interested in this peiod of history
Colonel Blomfield was later wounded in the battle of Spion Cop which was a nasty battle and the Lancashire Fusiliers apparently took quite a beating :

"Srange, too, was the fate of gallant Colonel Blomfield, whose regiment, one of the smartest of the smart regiments present, had done such splendid work, and had held on to its post to the bitter end. This officer was wounded early in the day, as already recorded, and lay in a trench helpless and fainting for hours and beyond the reach of help. Finally, he was able to crawl out and make his way down the side of the hill--down the _wrong_ side, unluckily for himself--and when next he was heard of he was a prisoner in Pretoria. That his life was saved at all was a marvel. Captain Tidswell, on seeing his Colonel wounded, rushed out with Sergeant Lightfoot and dragged him under a heavy fire into a trench, where he remained till the action was over."

"The 2nd Battalion arrived at CapeTown on the 19th December 1899 and immediately transferred to Durban. Along with several other regiments they formed 11th Brigade under Major General Woodgate, arriving at Frere on 9th January 1900.

Freeth, G.M. Stewart; Lieutenants J.J.R. Mallock, H.B. Roffey, A.J. Allardyce, R.S. Wilson, E. Fraser, D.F. Campbell (wounded 20.1.00); 2nd Lieutenants E.J.M. Barrett (wounded 20.1.00), G.H. Hastings, M.G. Croften (wounded 20.1.00); Captain R.B. Blunt (Adj) (wounded 20.1.00); Lieutenant W.W. Ganly (Qr. Mr); Major W.P. Squire (RAMC) medical officer in charge.
The regiment fought at Spioenkop, where they list 247 casualties and Vaalkrantz. They were sent to Garrison Frere from 12th to 26th February 1900, then Chieveley and on to Colenso until 8th March 1900 when they were sent to Pietermaritzburg. "
