White-faced Ibis. GMNH 6954. Little St. Simons Island, Glynn County, 24 April 2010. Photo by David Allen Sibley
Accepted by the Georgia Ornithological Society's Checklist and Records Committee; GCRC 2010-21. Very rare visitor to freshwater marshes and low, wet/muddy patches in agricultural land in the Coastal Plain ecoregion; casual on the Coast. The species has occurred during late summer and fall during post-breeding dispersal, as well as during spring migration. Since the mid-2000's, there has either been a slight increasing trend, or observers are getting better at differentiating these birds from the superficially-similar Glossy Ibis; immature birds are particularly difficult to identify with 100% certainty.
