TWELVE Easy come, easy go
(Mari grins at Tristan as she collects her things, ferrying them into the cabin, intending to continue working on her current painting while Tristan carefully relocates the paintings outside to their Jeep. When he finishes, he goes inside the cabin.)
Tristan:
You know, I just realized, none of your paintings have people -- (breaks off when he sees Mari standing motionless in front of her easel) Baby girl?
Mari:
(looks at him with tears in her eyes) It's gone.
Tristan:
What is?
(Mari dabs the paint brush into a blob of yellow on her palette then reaches toward the canvas. Her hand begins to shake, and the closer the brush gets to the canvas, the harder her hand shakes, until she finally gives a cry of despair, dropping the brush and covering her face with her hands. Tristan hurries to her, pulling her close.)
Tristan:
No, no. Don't cry, honey. You got it back, but maybe you just worked too hard at it? It came back, it'll come back again.
Mari:
(sadly speaks against his chest) But I thought I was okay again. I thought I was good again.
Tristan:
You ARE good, honey. Don't let this get to you. Hey, I just put seven paintings in the van that Stefan is going to FAINT over! Let's say he sells them all, including the lilies, at $30k. That's $240,000 dollars! Baby, we can put some of that down on a nice little house, and still have enough to build on with my job. You can take all the time you need to get back your mojo, okay? Zero pressure.
Mari:
I guess ... I guess it's a pretty good nest egg?
Tristan:
Egg? Baby girl, it's a whole nest!
Mari:
(manages a small chuckle) If I just have these little bursts, we'll probably do okay, won't we? (she looks up at him)
Tristan:
Yeah, we're gonna be okay. (kisses her) Hey, why don't you shuck the smock and we'll go into town for dinner?
Mari:
That ... that might be nice. (smiles)
Tristan:
I'll have to work on making it lit! Make haste, milady! Your Jeep carriage awaits!
Mari:
(laughing) You're ridiculous. Give me two minutes!
Tristan:
You may have all the minutes. I will always be waiting for you. (kisses her forehead, and Mari chuckles, hurrying to the bedroom to change)
