Curlew Display Flight
The Eurasian Curlew's display flight is a dramatic breeding ritual where males fly in large, bubbling, arching motions over their territory, often accompanied by an eerie, melodic call, or "cur-lee" song...which was the case on this day. So incredible to hear two males filling the air with their song all day long.
These displays, which include steep dives and slow wingbeats, often conclude with the male descending with wings raised in a "V" as seen here. This behaviour takes place over breeding sites in spring to attract mates and to establish their territory.
