Southern Division Sentinel
Tobyhanna Tower stands as a silent reminder of the history of the Pocono Mainline, once the Southern Division mainline of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad. The poured concrete tower was built by the DL&W in 1910 and controlled the crossovers and wye, which were used for turning helper locomotives in the days of steam. Nowadays the line is a single track, where there were once multiple mains and at least four side tracks, with Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad (DL) freight and occasional excursions from Steamtown plying the rails. On this particular day, DL M636 no. 3602 and M630 3000 are seen leading train PO-75 on the run back from Slateford Junction, bringing a few moments of activity back to the once busy location.
