Short_Street_stone_boundary_wall_and_the_Eton_School
Top left photo – at the lower left-hand side of this photo, a house boundary wall at corner of Short Street and Boundary Street can be seen, it resembles many of the perimeter walls of houses built in early 1930s. The wall does not have a straight top edge but with ‘bays' at 12 feet spacing; at each bay there was a slotted grill installed
Bottom left photo – the entire Short Street was captured while shooting in an apartment along Prince Edward Road, the plot at 304A Prince Edward Road was redeveloped and become Glorious Court since 1986. However, its old perimeter wall which was having the same pattern as above was removed during demolition
Middle bottom photo – circa 1960, showing a close-up view on the old wall around the same corner. It can be seen this section of the wall 'C' was almost identical with the northern section leading to Boundary Street
Middle top photo – the present view, the wall was much modified and repainted many times, yet its appearance remained largely unchanged, except disappearance of the concrete grills at each ‘bay’ since a glass block wall was created and filled up the space once with concrete grill. The rows of granite facing blocks at lower part of the wall are still evident, with the top row measures 10 inches high, second row 1 foot high and the third row 13 inches high
Lower right photo – an early photo date unknown but possibly 50s, with the name of an English language school ‘ETON’ in Chinese clearly seen. This building was facing Prince Edward Road and was rented by the English language school for a long while, yet despite the residential building has become a school, there was no significant alteration and addition work done to the building façade. The house on the adjoining plot (now Cheeruse Court at 302 Prince Edward Road) was also not yet redeveloped
Upper right photo – an old photo about the ETON English School but this one was in North Point; the school seemed to have several branches in Kowloon and on the Hong Kong Island, running English classes and also evening sessions
