Giving a helping hand.
I had seen this bumblebee - white-tailed, I think - on my chair outside the kitchen door when I made a coffee after lunch. It was still there half an hour later. We had had a sharp shower of rain around lunchtime, and the wind was bitterly cold. I mixed up a sugary drink, as suggested by the bee society, of white sugar and water, about 60/40. I placed some on the point of an old bone letter opener and gently slide it towards the bee. It moved towards the sugar and began to drink. I watched it long enough to take a few photos, and left it.
I am pleased to say that 10 minutes later, it had gone.......
