Int'l Gun Ownership vs. Firearm Fatalities
An international comparison of 40 nations' firearm fatalities (including homicides, suicides, and accidents) to civilian firearm ownership rates yields a statistically significant correlation.
The partisan divide is over interpretation: Gun control advocates say that restricting access to guns lowers the overall rate of traumatic fatalities, whereas gun rights advocates say that violence is the same and only the weapon changes (ie, if there's no gun handy, a killer will find a knife or rock).
