56119 47242 Stoney Bridge near Skelton Junction 27th September 1983

A warm early autumn evening just before dusk sees 56119 passing uniquely liveried Class 47 N° 47242 at Stoney Bridge near Skelton Junction on the 27th of September 1983. 47242 had just detached from its train of polypropylene tankers in the loop at Skelton Junction and was enduring a lengthy delay before running around before taking the Chester line for its journey south. The train had originated at the nearby Shell facility at Carrington on the then truncated Galzebrook line after the bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal was shut down two years prior to the photo due to it being found to be in an unsafe condition.. The working known as the Baglan Bay after its destination in South Wales usually turned up a CF machine.
