Mallard's rival
In 1938 Germany set a new world steam speed record of about 124 mph using this streamlined 4-6-4. Sir Nigel Gresley of the London and North Eastern Railway wasn't having any of that. So shortly after he thrashed one of his A4 class pacifics, Mallard, up to 126 mph. This record still stands.
This very impressive engine, with some of the streamlined cladding removed for some reason, now resided in the DB railway museum in Nuremburg.
