This is what was there before!
This was the Millwall Dock - and over it was a public right-of-way on a footbridge. In January 1982 the bridge with its lifts at either end was derelict (as were the docks) but anyone stupid enough (such as me) could still climb the stairs and cross the bridge.
This is looking north from the bridge. The office blocks of present day Canary Wharf are roughly where the cranes are.
