Lothian Buses Alexander Dennis Enviro 400H
Unique in the fleet....
With the withdrawals of the remaining TransBus Trident/TransBus President and disposals of the last - bar one open-topper in the East Coast Buses fleet - Scania Omnicities, it leaves the 2011 ADL hybrids as the only non-Volvo double-deckers in the Lothian fleet. These were Lothian Buses first double-decker hybrids and the reason that they arrived when they did was that ADL offered a long-wheelbase version of the E400H and Volvo - Lothian’s preferred supplier - didn’t offer a long-wheelbase double deck version of the B5LH. So the order went to ADL, as the purchase was being made with the support of the Green Bus Fund.
When they arrived, they arrived in a madder/gold version of Lothian’s then standard livery but they’ve now been repainted in this more simplified version of the current livery, which suits them well.
Seen here is 201 (SN11EES). Like some early hybrids, these have now been converted back to pure diesel operation with a new Euro VI engine, actually making them cleaner than the previous arrangement with Euro V engine and hybrid pack. More Alexander Dennis buses are due to enter service shortly though, albeit on Volvo B8L chassis. These are the first of a three-axle version of the Enviro 400MMC called the Enviro 400XLB.
