bra8_c1921_bra_from_2_hankies

Screen grabs from from a British Pathe 'Eve' piece about how to make a 'camisole' from two (man-size) handkerchiefs. Does the model put it on over her shift/camisole for reasons of cinematic decency or is that how it was meant to be worn? It's a bit like that secretary in 'Splash' who turns up for work with her bra on over her sweater. Although the mail order catalogue for 1926 shows a bra worn over a camisole I'm inclined to believe that this is a case of cinema decency: during the film it was stated that elastic was inserted in the bottom for added security. The only thing security would be necessary for was to stop things dropping out, which would not be much of a problem if it was worn over the camisole.
