Igniting the Grump

Crested Butte's annual harvest festival, Vinotok, culminates with the trial and burning of The Grump--a sacrificial scapegoat for the discord between nature and technology.

 

The Harvest Mother, the Red Lady (the red rock mountain that shelters Crested Butte), the Dragon (nature), the Knight (technology), and their assorted handmaidens danced around the fire as the crowd chanted "BURN THE GRUMP!"
