a very quick thumbnail storyboard for the 4-5 second animation. The design of the character or its rig are not my work. I did only the animation.
Report:
I was a bit limited by the rigs that were available for the assignment. There were two scene files.
One rig had joints. The MakenurbsSphere nodes didnt function on it and I couldnt aim constrain the eyeballs to anything. One small control object is parenting the joints/everything and is hidden under the rocket. On both rigs, when you select it, it also selects the eyes and everything else, so when keying the animation you cant look at their keyframes individually on the time line (it shows EVERYTHING all the time)- you are forced to go in the graph editor and dig.
the other rig had no bones, but its eye controls were functioning properly. So I picked the rig that had eye controls and squashing working, because the character is after all a rocket. All the joints I might need are in the spine, but I can fake a gloomy pose with the squash and the eyes anyway.
The assignment was to animate the rocket, not to fix the rig or rebuild it from scratch. So I animated it with what I had and didnt do anything else. I feel like the lift off might be a bit too slow
