Matt (#5/100)

I was on the White Rock Lake Artists' Studio Tour in Dallas, Texas. It is a self guided tour from house to house... studio to studio to visit with the artists and see their work. This is how I met Matt as he was in his studio in the back of his property.

 

According to his website: "Matt trained as a printmaker at the University of North Texas, and he currently uses woodblock prints (often on handmade paper) as his preferred method of making his vision a reality. He also can be considered a storyteller, inventor, printer, activist, skateboard instructor, primitive architect, pan-dimensional archeologist, digital theologist, and a bicycling philosopher. He jokingly refers to himself as a “Renaissance Bum.” He grew up on the bayous of south Louisiana. While exploring the swamps as a boy, he also learned to seek sanctuary and answers in the depths of his own imagination."

 

Could I have gotten that description of him in my visit to his studio? Definitely not! Is it any wonder that he is married to a photographer (Sharon) who shoots flowers dipped in liquid nitrogen and makes them shatter for their photo debut? What a fun and crazy couple this is!

 

Matt was taking donations after he helped his visitors make a woodblock print that they could take home. I made a frog print and it will be framed and hung proudly in my home and each time I look at it, I will remember this fun day visiting so many creative and fun artists!
