The year was 2010 when my nursing supervisor requested that I bring my "special friend" Lucy to Nurses' Week at the hospital. Seriously? Did she really mean it? When I told Lucy of the plan, she was a bit apprehensive as she had never before been to a hospital!

We pulled into valet parking and this nice fella came to the car. I explained that I was a critical care nurse in the ICU, and that my passenger was unable to walk, and could he get a wheelchair for her. He was so accommodating and took off running to get a wheelchair. When he returned and opened the car door, you should have seen the look on his face when he saw Lucy... a mannequin! (Was he thinking... "Please God, do not let this crazy woman ever take care of me!") HA! But he ever so gently lifted her to the chair, and then made sure her shoes were securely on her feet. (I guess he would have a fun story to tell his family when he got home that night!)

As Lucy and I went through the halls of the hospital, you should have heard the shock, giggles and surprise of those we passed. And when our director of nurses saw Lucy, she let out a gasp! A fun time was had by all.

And so... I celebrate this special day!
