I have somewhat mixed feelings about this location as opposed to staying in Phira or Oia. Oia is said to be the most photogenic location for viewing the sunset, but then you have to deal with a lot of other photographers and tourists jockeying for the prime viewing location. Seen pictures and videos of long lines of photographers set up with their tripods to capture the sunset and/or the villages of Phira or Oia at sunset.
This hotel on the other hand, is well outside (south) of Phira and Oia and does not have the tourist crowds, although it is just off the main (busy and noisy!) highway. The rooms closest to the highway can get a fair amount of street noise which lasts pretty much until 1AM every night.
The surroundings here are primarily modern resort hotels, and thus, it kind of lacks some of the photogenic appeal of the other locations. However, all rooms have a Western (sunset) view of the caldera.
