Vézac: Château de Fayrac view, sunrise
View of the Château de Fayrac (Dordogne, Aquitaine, in southwestern France) from a window of a chambres d'hôtes (bed-and-breakfast) house, on an early morning at the beginning of June 2009. The sun has recently risen.
This privately owned château (13th-17th century) is set along the River Dordogne, just downriver from the village and château of Castelnaud. The chambres d'hôtes establishment is in the nearby hamlet of Vézac, just across and upriver from Fayrac (northeast of the chateau).
Both places are in the Périgord noir (Black Périgord) area of the Dordogne département. The reference to "black" is reputedly based on the thickly wooded areas that cover so many hilly slopes in dark green.
