Sample Swatches

Two, unblocked swatches from my handspun/dyed sample yarn. The one on the left is carded and worsted spun, the one on the right is handcombed and worsted spun.

I thought I would prefer the combed prep, but actually I like the carded yarn better in the swatch. In the skein they don't look *that* different. The carded skein has a slight bit of fuzziness that the combed does not, but it's not very obvious unless you were really looking for it. Knit up, however, the combed skein is definitely denser, and has less drape. I thought I'd like that for the cable definition but actually I like the bit of woolen-ness in the carded as it helps fill out the cables a bit more.

Again, the power of sampling. I didn't expect I'd elect to card for the final yarn, but I'm going to. So - now to flick the remainder of the fleece and run it through my drumcarder.
