The Rake.
After the floating got on down a ways the crane lifted a catwalk onto the railing so a man could walk back and forth raking the surface of the bridge so it wouldn’t be too slick. If you look between the top of the catwalk and the bottom of the thing the leveler runs on you can see how the crown of the bridge is higher in the middle than at the edges.
