Kazariyama (Decorated Float)
Yamakasa is a festival to celebrate harvest in mid-July in Hakata. Parade through the city centre is the highlight of this festival. Kakiyama floats are carried by bearers wearing a loincloth. After receiving water on their bodies in spirited manner, they carry 1-ton floats while giving each other a shout 'Oisa, Oisa' then running through the streets at full speed by pushing the float from behind. It is a 1.2-kilometer course.
Kushida Shrine is the spot from where competitors head off on their long early morning run. Kazariyama, decorated floats (see picture) are located within the shrine premises.....[yokanavi.com]
